Timing is critical to the efficacy of Plan B®, which is now available without a prescription
to consumers age 18 and older. However, a prescription is still required for women under 17 and younger. Recognizing the
importance of pharmacy access to emergency contraception, pharmacists in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Vermont and Washington can become certified and trained to provide
Plan B® directly to all patients. The requirements for certification vary from state to state.
